Another Side of Peace introduces Roni Hirshenzon, a 60-year-old Israeli man who has suffered as much as any parent can imagine: both of Roni’s sons are dead. Each died at age 19 as a direct result of the violence in the region. Putting hatred and despair aside, Roni cofounded the Parents Circle, a support group for bereaved Israeli and Palestinian families who have lost children in the conflict. The film follows Roni’s journey as he comes to terms with the deaths of his two sons, and his efforts to reach reconciliation and promote peace. He works with Ghazi Briegieth, his Palestinian counterpart, to connect with other bereaved parents in Israel and the Palestinian Territories.

| Ellen Frick's documentary work focuses on people facing extraordinary challenges, and undergoing powerful changes. Her new one-hour public television documentary, Another Side of Peace follows a combined Israeli-Palestinian support group of parents who have lost children in the conflict. It is about grief, reconciliation and hope, and it's message is simple: No More Death. The film was presented in May 2005 to the United Nations Subcommittee on Reconciliation, and has been broadcast on public television. International broadcasts will take place in 2006. Ellen has been on the production team for many projects broadcast on PBS affiliated television stations. These include: Perfect Illusions: Eating Disorders and the Family, a one-hour PBS documentary exploring the role of the family in the development of eating disorders in teenage girls; Pike Place Market: The Soul of a City , community and culture of Seattle's world-famous public market; and The Rhona Disaster , a one-hour documentary for PBS and The History Channel, about the sinking of a troop ship in WWII. Currently Ellen is shooting and editing a project for NatureServe, a partnership of The Nature Conservancy and National Geographic. In addition, she is working as a non-partisan documentary filmmaker for Election Protection and Video the Vote. |
